Itaewan

Before I talk about what we did today, I must tell you about last night. After the Korean BBQ, the parents were all going to go to karaoke. We decided we wanted to tag along, but then were disappointed to find that the road to access the karaoke place was blocked. Luckily, Sunghee's television service is equipped with thousands of karaoke songs in English and Korean. After listening to the parents sing badly for a while with a wine bottle-spoon-pretend microphone contraption, we decided to join them. They were quite inpressed that I (sort of) sang two songs in Korean, "Kissing You" by SNSD and "Ave Maria" from 200 Pounds of Beauty. We also sang some 'Mamma Mia' songs and some Avril Lavigne and Jason Mraz.

Today, Sunghee and I met up with my cousin Codey and his girlfriend Joanna in Itaewan. We ate Western food then took a taxi to Kangnam, where we went to a cafe. At the cafe, they had an interesting service called Dr. Fish. Basically, after finishing your drink (Peach iced tea, in my case) you head over to a platform where you take off your shoes and rinse your feet. After this, you sit down and stick your feet in a fish tank full of 'doctor fish' which nibble all the dead skin cells off your feet, toes and ankles. It is a very weird, ticklish feeling that left Sunghee squirming all over the place making hilarious faces. Afterwards, we washed our feet off and headed back onto the street.
We took another taxi, after some waiting, to Myeongdong. While waiting for what seemed like eternity at a stop light, we spotted a taxi driver trimming his eyebrows with a passenger passed out in the back seat. hahahaha. We walked around for a while, then Sunghee and I bought some 'Bopgi' which is basically deflated sponge toffee. We found a sticker booth, which Sunghee was very eager to go in. the booths are extremely hot and crowded, especially when there is four people. You choose a bunch of cheesy backgrounds, take some photos, then decorate them with more cheesy words and stamps. After laughing for a while at the ridiculous pictures, we walked around for a bit, watching the buzzing streets. We passed a place called Teenie Weenie.

We parted at the subway, and Sunghee and I headed back to the house. On the train ride home, Sunghee taught me some Korean, so now I can sort of read it... but very slowly.
